I want my MTV

I know most of you guys aren't really that interested in pop music or music videos or overpaid, marginally talented, carefully marketed stars. But DAMN, did anyone happen to catch the Video Music Awards yesterday? If not, there are pictures of "the kiss" all over the web. I want any and all commentary.

Ever the diplomat, I thought this to be the most ideal spot for some awards of my own:

Worst technical snafu of all time: No video tribute to Duran Duran to introduce their Lifetime Achievement Award.

Worst people to have on stage for the worst technical snafu of all time: Avril Lavigne and Kelly Osbourne.

Most disturbing (but fun) example of the fact that in order to entertain the majority of people, you need to lipsync and have a 50-person dance extravaganza: Beyonce Knowles.

Best Voice: Mary J. Blige.

Most Boring Sober Person: Mary J. Blige.

Most rockinest montage performance: Metallica.

Most tragic award: Linkin Park wins Best Rock Video.

Most unnecessary awards: Justin Timberlake's.

Most priceless moment: Justin Timberlake's reaction to Madonna and Britney smooching.

Kissing Madonna is like kissing your mother.

Least appropriate use of plaid, ever: Missy Elliot. Turns out, it is a misdemeanor to suck.

Stonedest person on stage that I've never heard of before: Lil' Jon.

Yeah, I know. It's really too bad how Lil' John had to turn to drugs after the Merry Men broke up.

Well, the lesbian kissing alone was worth the price of admission imo.

The fact that the white stripes were totally overlooked was disappointing. The fact they lost to Lincoln Park reaffirms my belief in the stupidity of mankind.

Coldplay. Good? Sure. Awe inspiring musical masters who should be showered in praise? Not so much in my opinion. Maybe I am off base here but Coldplay sounds like less inspired less talented early Radiohead to me.

Puffy. WTF? This guy makes a living by talking about dead people. When was the last time you heard the guy talk and not bring up someone who has recently passed or Biggie?

Best cover band ever. Metallica. That was the coolest part of the show imo. I would love to see them do a cover album or something after that.

Irony. Missy Elliot. Probably the worst dressed there but yet the only person to bring her stylists and such up on stage with her for her awards and thank them. I would kill someone who put me in those outfits. Queer Eye needs to help her out more than any straight guy imo.

Best use of pimps and hoes. Snoop without a doubt. I was laughing my ass off when the curtain came up on that one. Who would have ever thought you would see actual no messing around working pimps and hoes on the mtv video awards ever?! Me either, and then you see Don
"The Magic" Juan following Snoop aorund like a puppy all night. And did any of you see Snoop with the 2 women on leashes? There is something to keep mom proud for all time. "Did you see me on TV mom? I was the slut on a leash standing next to Snoop all night!"

Me. getting old. Definitely. The only reason I watched it really was I had a head cold and was crashing on the couch during the rebroadcast so I guess that says something but.... I had never heard of some of the people and while I am no pop culture worshipping tool. I like to think I at least know what is going on somewhat. Not so much anymore apparantly.

I'm not down with cyberlingo--what does imo stand for?

Never mind. I just figured it out.
